Field Notes is the theme I built for my own blog after getting tired of themes that look like landing pages. It's one column, it loads in about 40ms, and it has exactly one font (Charter, which your Mac already has). Footnotes go in the margin on wide screens and drop inline on phones. What's in the box: six templates (home, post, archive, tag, about, 404), dark mode that follows the system, an RSS feed, and a print stylesheet because some people still print things.
